April at Raising Little Ones…

April at RLO has been another busy month! We had a very busy Easter Camp which was enjoyed by all and we have been doing lots of fun new activities!

A collection of photos we have taken this month of the little ones!

What we have been up to this month…

  1. Sensory Play-

We began the month with some rainbow rice play, which is a great activity to support cognitive development. The rainbow rice encourages the little ones to identify the colours of the different rice grains. This activity also supports the children’s fine motor skills and promotes mark making. The little ones used their fingers to make shapes in the rice and also mixed it all up as a team to make one big mixed up rainbow!

  2. Easter Camp-

During the month, we also ran our Easter Camp! We were very excited to run our first holiday camp and it was a great success! We were able to welcome in some new faces and we also enjoyed doing our Easter craft every day! As you will be able to see below, two of the crafts we did during the camp. One being a decorate and build your own Easter chick, and the other is an Easter themed handprint! We are looking forward to running our next camp in summer, which will run for three weeks with longer sessions!

  3. Discovering Nature-

This month, we continued our daily walks around Inverleith Park! We found that the little ones were interested in learning about nature while out on our walks. The little ones were enjoying picking the plants up, but we discussed that doing this would mean the plants would stop growing, so we showed which plants we could pick out of the ground, like dandelions. The little ones loved picking up the dandelions and blowing the fluff away! We also talked about the swans and ducks in the pond, and that we need to be kind to them and let them live in the pond rather than disturbing them! The little ones were great at understanding and respecting this!

  4. Messy Play-

The final activity we really enjoyed this month was the sea themed gloop! This was a great messy play activity, we worked together to find all of the sea animals we have in the room and then mixed together water and cornflour to make the gloop. We then added some blue food colouring to make it look like the sea! After adding the food colouring, the little ones made themselves busy by playing in the gloop! Although they came away with blue hands, we had some great fun!

Raising Little Ones is a brilliant place to take your child if you need a couple of hours to yourself. I take my child here once a week to give myself some time to go for a coffee or to get jobs done. I would really recommend RLO!

Monthly advice for parents…

This month, we want to share some advice on looking after your mental health…

As a parent, you have lots of responsibilities, but one of these is looking after yourself, and many parents forget to do this. We are here to remind you and support you to take some time out for yourself! Raising Little Ones is somewhere you can bring your little one for a few hours while you have some time to yourself. There are lots of lovely cafes, restaurants and more in Stockbridge for you to do! Some ways of keeping your mind heathy are;

  • Keeping active! If you are someone who loves exercising, there is the brilliant TRIB3 next door to us who do some great group workouts! But, if you are someone who isn’t looking for classes, then you can go for a walk around Inverleith Park or the Botanical Gardens, which are both within walking distance from RLO!

  • Maintaining a good sleep pattern! We know this can be quite tricky when you have a little one, and if this is something that you are struggling with, then you can talk to Becca who is a trained sleep consultant. You can get in touch with here by clicking this link!

  • Finally, keeping in touch with friends and family and having some time to socialise is another great way to maintain a good mental health.

Here at RLO, we are here to support you, so if you are struggling and need some support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch or have a chat with us at drop off or pick up!

Thank you for taking the time to read this months news! We hope you enjoy reading about what we have been doing at RLO and hope the advice is helpful! If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to get in touch! We look forward to seeing you soon!
