Our Halloween Party

The week beginning 28th of October all of our little ones came dressed up in their brilliant Halloween costumes 👻 .

On the 31st we all then took part in a Halloween party, the boys and girls took part in pumpkin messy play and also an apple water play. They had so much fun and made loads of mess!

!Why messy play is important for children!

Messy play is a great way for children to work on their fine motor skills, problem solving and hand and eye coordination. Messy play allows children of all ages to explore different textures and engage their senses. It allows children to use their natural curiosity and engage their senses at the developmental level appropriate for them.

They learn foundational cognitive principles as they exercise motor, language and social skills. It allows the child to explore materials, shapes, colours and textures. It can help your child to express themselves creatively and it creates a sensory experience to help children understand how things feel, smell and taste.

Risk Assessments:

Each day, allergies and intolerances are checked as well as the age 0f the children attending the session to ensure messy play is age appropriate/edible etc. Everyday we have out sand and water play for children as well as a large variety of messy play. These range from: Shaving foam, salt, gloop, slime, pasta, cornflour, paint, rice, gellibaff, cereal - weetabix, shreddies, cheerios.

Planning:

Before setting up the messy play activities, we observe what the children have been interested in and create worlds of messy play based on their curiosities. For example, if a child is intrigued by ice in a water bottle, the next week we would create a cold artic world with ice, cornflour snow and penguins! We often add food colouring or paint to the resources to give them colour and make them look more inviting.

We really encouarge it here at RLO, no matter your child(rens) age. We would advice you to bring your child(ren) to be in old clothes and bring as many spares as possible as we want the children in our care to have the full messy play experience.

STAFFING:

Please join us in congratulating SILVIE on taking her next steps in her acting career. She is a huge part of RLO and will be missed but we are so excited for what her future holds.
