October at Raising Little Ones…
This October at Raising Little Ones we have been very busy! We have been looking at; Autumn, Jobs/ Occupations, Feelings/ Emotions and of course Halloween! Keep scrolling to find out more about the activities we have been doing this month!
A collection of photos we have taken this month of the little ones!
What we have been up to this month…
Autumn-
During the first week of this month, and since we have moved into the Autumn season, we decided to do this as our theme! During this week, we went on lots of walks to collect and look at the leaves on the trees and floor. We then used these leaves for arts and crafts in which the little ones made some lovely pictures! We also made our own Autumn tree handprints!
Jobs/ Occupations-
Durning the second week of September, our theme was jobs and occupations. We started off the week by doing a construction tuff tray with vehicles, blocks and weetabix as hay! We also incorporated this into our daily walks by walking to the police station and looking at the vehicles and chatted about who worked in each vehicle. We also did a tuff tray activity which was recycling themed. We talked about how the people who collect the recycling do this as their job. The little ones seemed to really enjoy playing with the recycling lorry and the boxes. We ended the week off with a really fun Ice Cream shop activity! The little ones seemed to really enjoy making the ice cream and putting it in our toy cones and bowels.
Feelings/ Emotions-
The following week we looked at feelings and emotions. We read lots of books about this including; “The Colour Monster” and “A Little Bit Different”. One of our other activities this week was a “Baby Spa”, where the little ones relaxed with cucumber on their eyes and had a little massage listening to calming music! Finally, we had our messy play activity which was coloured spaghetti and a little experiment with toilet roll holders! See below for pictures!
Halloween-
Our final week of October was spent doing lots of halloween based activities! We did a halloween scavenger hunt, spider arts and crafts, pumpkin carving and ghost footprints.
We hope your little ones have enjoyed the time they have spent with us at RLO this month and we can’t wait to see what the next month brings us!
“As a first time mum to a baby boy, childcare is incredibly daunting however RLO made the whole process reassuring and straight forward. The booking process is great to use and shows the range of options available in terms of availability and the staff themselves are second to none.
Each member of the RLO team have made a huge effort to settle my son in to each session and its clear every time I collect him, how much he has enjoyed himself.
I am so happy with every part of the service Rebecca and her team provide and have recommended her to everyone I know!”
Day in the Life of Becca…
In order to allow our parents to get to know our staff a little more… this month we are sharing a day in the life of Becca!
Becca is our manager and owner! To learn more about her position and experience, please click here!
What does your day at RLO look like?
In our household, the day starts at 7am. Ava and I then get ready for the day! Once I am organised I bundle everything in to the car and drive to RLO. I try to be there around 9am so that I can say "hi" to the parents and have a quick catch up with the team before the children arrive. I like to know what the plan is for the day and sometimes I have extra resources to bring in!
Once I have dropped off Ava and chatted to the team, I try to hide in The Place and get on with some work. This never works and I end up coming in and out the room, chatting with the children and wanting to help! The girls usually have to tell me to leave and do some work. Eventually I open my laptop, answer the emails and phone calls and arrange the latest visits and settles.
When I pick up Ava, I have a quick debrief with the RLO team and then we are out the door at 2.30pm.
What is your favourite part of your job at RLO?
All of it. I am very lucky and have created my ideal work place. Not only is it flexible for me but I love seeing parents and families happy. I have always found the struggle of finding the right childcare baffling, so I love seeing that my dream of flexible childcare is actually a necessity for so many families!
I also love how amazing the team are. RLO was my dream and I am so grateful for the girls that work here and how easy they make my job.
And of course, my favourite part of RLO is the families we meet and help. I love meeting new families and being able to help them, watching the children settle and having confident children in our setting is truly amazing and makes it all worth it!
What do you get up to after work?
All my days are different, as I try to balance mum life, RLO and being me. So the days that I am in RLO in the morning, I make sure I do something with Ava after work. We will either go swimming, to the park or go and meet a friend. I am fortunate that I have a huge network of friends who all have children the same age so I try to see one of them atleast twice a week. The other days, Ava and I play at home before the dinner, bath and bedtime routine starts.
Once Ava is in bed, I log back on to the emails and RLO account and check the cancellations and waitlists. I email back the parents if there are spaces and then let the team know if there are any visits or settles for the next day.
Once this is done, I get a cup of tea and sit down for the evening- usually I am exhausted by then that I watch Bake Off in bed.
