What we have been up to this month…

  1. Science-

During the first week of the month, we had a science theme where we did lots of experiments that were mainly based around the idea of actions have effect. One of the experiments we did was Fizzing Lemons, where we added bicarbonate of soda and blue food colouring to half of a lemon, the lemon fizzed and then changed colour! We also did a few colour mixing activities where the little ones mixed liquids of lots of colour to make different colours.

  2. Road Safety-

Durning the second week of November, it was road safety awareness week, so we did lots of activities that were based around this theme. We learnt about what the colours red, orange and green represent on traffic lights and how to cross the road safely while out on a walk. One of our practitioners made some cars out of cardboard boxes which the little ones seemed to really enjoy! We took these out on a walk during the week and we were lucky enough to bump into a traffic warden who spoke to the little ones and even gave them a parking ticket!

  3. Kindness/ Looking After Others-

The following week we enjoyed our theme on kindness and looking after others. During this week we made some cards for those who help us and look after us and learnt about looking after others by doing activities like feeding the dolls. Finally, we collected some food to take to the food bank in Stockbridge which we did together at the end of the week by taking the trolly and buggy to cary the food along to the food bank!

  4. Hibernation-

The final week in November was our hibernation theme! This week we made dens in the woods for us to eat snack in and learnt about the different animals that hibernate and did lots of playing with these animals! We also read ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ and then went on our own bear hunt!

Thank you for being so accommodating with bookings and understanding when we need to cancel or change the session. You have been a saviour for us!

A message from Becca…

This November we are celebrating our one year anniversary so Becca (owner) has written a message for our parents!

First of all, I would like to say thank you to everyone who helped me open Raising Little Ones. I can’t believe we have been open for a year and without the amazing opportunity Edinburgh Accies gave me, I would not have been able to start my dream business.

I have to say a HUGE thank you to the parents (and children) that have been with us since opening, Not only do I greatly appreciate you coming back each week but I am so thrilled and honoured that you encourage your friends to use our services too.

The past year (and a half) has been quite overwhelming and I could never imagine how well RLO would do. It has been such an adventure and I am loving every minute of it but I could not have done it without the support from some amazing people. A very special thank you to Claire Sutherland and Orla Leitch who have helped me since the beginning and without them RLO would not be where it is today!

Claire has been working so hard in the background, ensuring all files and paper work is updated and Orla who is the most caring person I have ever met. She looks after the RLO children like they are her family and it is so lovely to see someone so at ease in their job! All the staff have been amazing and I am truly grateful for every single one them who have made my dream come true. A huge thanks to Katriona who has supported the new practitioners and ensured my standards are met, Laura who works wo hard to keep the parents informed, Sally who brings in the most creative messy play I have ever seen and Emma who brings the positivity and energy every single day.

And lastly, thank you so much to all the amazing little ones who come and play with us every day! You cheer us up and make our days filled with laughter and love. Thank you and we can’t wait to see you grow.

Thank you for taking the time to read this months news! We hope you enjoy reading about what we have been doing at RLO and hope the advice is helpful! If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to get in touch! We look forward to seeing you soon!
