April Round up
We have been learning all about kindness, nature, generosity and charity. We also talked about what makes us special and unique whilst making our own family trees to put up in our homes. We had great at our farm shop and loved buying different vegetables from each other and carrying them around the playroom in the trolley! Our last week of April was celebrating Earth week and we set up a recycling centre in the Playroom! We had great fun sorting the rubbish in to the correct piles and playing with the recycling trucks!
What’s happening in May
In May we are celebrating people who help us! We would love to invite any parents to come in and talk to the children about their jobs! Please speak to Becca if you can help us! We are also going to be exploring nature, learning about different countries and discovering lots of types of vehicles.
A Day in the life of.... Silvie!
I arrive at work at 8:30am and start setting up the playroom. Every week I am in charge of two activities. At 9am I welcome the children into our room. I have a quick chat with the parents to check for any updates or information that I need to know about their children. Depending on the weather, our mornings can consist of going out for a walk, visiting the library, going into our messy room, exploring the garden or independent free play in the playroom. Today we decided to do some messy sensory play in the messy room. Before 10am I make sure that I have taken everyone to the toilet or changed their nappy so that we are fresh and ready for the day. At 10am it’s snack time! I take the children to wash their hands in small groups before sitting down. We enjoy singing songs whilst we wait for each others turn. I check that all the soapy bubbles are washed off and then we head back into the playroom for some snack! On Wednesdays I am in charge of mealtimes but today it was someone else so I sit with the children whilst they eat and keep them entertained. After snack time we head out for a walk to Inverleith pond to see the ducks! On our way back to RLO we go through the woods to visit the fairy trail that we created. We head back for lunchtime at 11:30am. After being outside I take the children to wash their hands to get rid of any dirt or mud before entering the playroom. Once we are clean we all sit down for lunch together. In the afternoon I put down some of the children for their afternoon nap. I discuss with the other children what they would like to do with the afternoon. Today we decided we would like to take part in group time! I gather all the children and we sit in a circle with musical instruments. We take turns at contributing to the group ideas, stories, songs, thoughts or dances. At 1:30pm I start thinking about getting ready for home time. All the children’s nappies are re done ready for them to go home and I make sure to get each of their bags and outdoor wear together. At 2pm it’s home time! I hand over the children one by one back to their parent/guardian and give a summary of what they got up to today and what they ate. 2-2:30pm I help clean and tidy up all the toys and play areas. I make sure to get any admin jobs done and prepare for tomorrow. From 2:30pm I leave RLO and I nanny for a little one to keep my afternoons busy. Sometimes I work evenings babysitting for different families or I work Front Of House at the Festival Theatre. When I’m not working with little people, I am learning lines and attending auditions in between acting jobs.
